An improvement reads a Method, its runs, and your correction, and returns a proposal: a changed Method, a new case, a rubric fix, a script change, or no change. A proposal never publishes itself and never changes the current version. Only a person accepts it.

1. Ask for an improvement

  • --note: the correction, in your words. It is about the newest run of the Method on this computer. The improvement reads that run, and a suggested case records it.
  • --step: improve only this step.
  • --case: a case that the change must pass.
The file needs its id: line (run it once while signed in). Where the improvement runs depends on run_data:

2. Review the proposal

This lists the proposals in your account and the local ones beside the file, with their status, kind, cause, and steps. It also shows the newest improvement that has no proposal yet: its status, and its error if it failed. An improvement usually takes a few minutes. To wait for it:
--wait prints each step that the improvement reaches, and stops when the improvement ends. On the dashboard, a Method with an open proposal shows Proposal ready to review. Accept or reject it there.

3. Apply it

apply merges the newest accepted proposal (or else the newest local proposal) into your file, step by step. A part that only the proposal changed takes the change. A part that both you and the proposal changed is a conflict: apply lists the base, your value, and the proposed value, changes nothing, and exits 1. Merge it by hand, then run method apply FILE PROPOSAL_ID --resolved. Commands that take a signed-in file apply an accepted proposal first and print one line. Nothing is published: run the Method, then publish the new version.

Automatic suggestions

With the Startup plan, Method checks each Method with account run data once a day. When its newest runs fail more often, or give more unclear or low-confidence answers, than the week before, it starts an improvement. One email a day lists the new proposals. Improvements in your account and automatic suggestions are in the Startup plan. See Pricing.
