1. Install and sign in

The installer works on macOS and glibc Linux and includes Node. It also adds the Method plugin to Claude Code and Codex when it finds them, so later sessions know Method. With Node.js 22 or later you can install the npm package instead:
method login opens your browser for approval. Do not paste credentials into chat.

2. Run an example

This example runs two local scripts. It makes no model calls.
Read the Method and the two scripts before you run them. The save script writes the text to a file. A separate check script compares the file with the input. The file contains Hello from Method. and a final newline.

3. Find the version

The run starts at once and saves in the background. Its last line says Saved as version N with a dashboard link, or Will save when online. The first save writes an id: line into checked-file.method. Keep that line: it links the file to its Method. See Publish and versions. Change the text in inputs.json and run again. The save step runs again because its input changed. An unchanged step is reused from the earlier run.

4. Write your own Method

Ask your coding agent to turn a repeated task into a Method. The agent runs method authoring first and follows it. Give it the task and an example of a good result if you have one. It writes the file, validates it, runs a sample, and shows you the result. Without the plugin, add this line to your agent’s global instructions (for example ~/.claude/CLAUDE.md or ~/.codex/AGENTS.md):
Or install the plugin by hand:
Signed in, call and agent steps use a hosted model through your Method account. You need no model key and no local agent. See Pricing for the model credit.
